Citadel Securities’ Pete Giacchi Reflects on the 20th Anniversary of 9/11

As the nation commemorates the 20th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, Citadel Securities’ Pete Giacchi shared his recollections of that tragic day with CNBC.

Pete, who is the firm’s Head of DMM Floor Trading and a Senior Designated Market Maker (DMM) on the floor of the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE), recalled being at NYSE when the Twin Towers fell. He said, “I remember feeling completely helpless. When the first building came down, that smoke was on us so quick and you get the feeling of fear and ‘What do I do’ and you think to yourself how easily that could have been you. The thing that sticks with me the most is that feeling of mortality that day and how easily life changed for so many people and changed so tragically.”

Twenty years after the day that changed the world forever, we remember the 2,983 men, women and children killed in the attacks at the World Trade Center site, the Pentagon and aboard Flight 93 and all those who have served the cause of freedom since.
