Community Impact: Dylan, a Community Leader
About the Program
At Citadel Securities, we encourage our team members to serve their communities as civic leaders. The Community Leaders program enables this support by providing our colleagues with concierge nonprofit board matching, governance training and cash grants.
How Dylan Is Helping Gold Star Children Realize Their College Dreams
Dylan, Philanthropy and Public Affairs Associate, joined the Junior Board of Advisors at the Children of Fallen Patriots Foundation in September 2024 after enrolling in Citadel Securities’ Community Leaders program, which supports team members serving on nonprofit boards.
Children of Fallen Patriots Foundation provides college scholarships and educational resources to military children who have lost a parent in the line of duty, known as Gold Star Children. Once federal aid and VA-related grants are exhausted, Children of Fallen Patriots Foundation steps in to fill the gap, ensuring these students graduate debt-free. The foundation has assisted over 2,800 bright, motivated students throughout their undergraduate studies.
The son of a retired command sergeant major in the U.S. Army, Dylan immediately identified with Children of Fallen Patriots Foundation’s mission. His own experiences of growing up in a military family—and those of other military kids who have not been as fortunate—have significantly influenced how Dylan sees the world. The organization’s ethos, which places a premium on service and taking pride in country, echoes the values with which Dylan was raised and solidified his interest in helping to ease a burden these kids never asked for.
The Junior Advisory Board at Children of Fallen Patriots Foundation acts as a force multiplier for the organization by getting the word out about the mission, engaging with young executives and community members and contributing to fundraising efforts like happy hours and run/walk challenges. They even help network with the students for future job opportunities after graduation.
“The Community Leaders program has been a real bright spot for me in recent years at Citadel,” said Dylan. “Knowing the firm sees the importance and value in giving back to the community is one thing, but the financial backing it provides also expands the aperture of opportunities to younger colleagues who are earlier in their careers and otherwise wouldn’t have the means to contribute so substantially to causes like this one.”
